Rotary Provides Summer Meals for Area Kids Every Tuesday

Pickup-at-WalmartFor the third year in a row, the Rotary Club of Yelm is providing a weekly lunch to Yelm and Rainier area kids through the “10 Weeks of Summer” program.

Every Tuesday, the Rotary Club hands out 200 grocery bags filled with food and personal hygiene products 10 a.m. to noon at the Nisqually Pines Office, Carlson Scout Cabin, Windy Beach Mailboxes in Clearwood, and the Rainier Schools Administrative Building.

More than 1,800 bags were distributed to Yelm and Rainier students last year, many of whom receive free and reduced lunch during the school year. Although students have access to food when school is in session, many of them do not have the same access to a balanced meal during the summer months. The Rotary Club of Yelm has stepped up to fill that need by providing food for our local students in a successful effort to ensure nobody goes hungry.

The program is funded through grants provided by Rotary International, the Nisqually Indian Tribe, Walmart, and through events held through the Rotary Club of Yelm, including the Stampede 5K and Rummage Sale.
