Business Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

It is the mission of Public Works  to provide essential infrastructure and utility services to the citizens of Yelm in a prompt, courteous, safe, and cost-effective manner. The department is responsible for operating public infrastructure in a way that respects the environment and provides the ability of government to adequately preserve these assets for future generations.

Public Works is the largest and most diverse department within the City of Yelm's municipal organization. The department covers everything from utility maintenance to animal control. Employees strive to provide exceptional customer service in every category to improve quality of life for the citizens of Yelm.

If you experience a water system malfunction or emergency at any time please call 360-789-9079, including after business hours, on weekends, or during holidays and you will be connected to a dispatcher who will send someone to your location.

If you experience a sewer system malfunction or if your sewer alarm comes on at any time please call 360-458-8411 to be connected to our sewer treatment plant. If you call after business hours, on weekends, or during holidays, your call will be routed to a call-out phone and one of our employees will promptly reply.

For all other emergencies or if you are unable to get through, please call 911.

Animal Control - Starting January 12, 2021, Joint Animal Services will be taking over animal control for the City of Yelm. This partnership allows us to more effectively meet the needs of our growing population and their four-legged friends.

If you have lost a pet, please check out their lost and found photo albums on their Facebook page. If you don’t see the animal there, please call (360-352-2510) or email (shelter@jointanimalservices.org) with the following information:
- Your name
- Your phone number and/or email address
- A description of the lost or found pet (breed(s), coat length, color, sex, spay/neuter status, distinguishing marks)
- When you lost or found the pet
- Where you lost or found the pet (name of street, subdivision, largest cross street, city, nearest commonly known store/landmark if possible)
- Include a picture if you have one. ONLY 1 PICTURE can be posted.
They  will take that information and post it in the appropriate album on their Facebook page as soon as they are able. 

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, all shelter visits are by appointment only. This includes adoptions, reclaims, stray drop-offs and owner surrenders.
